PanImage 7-inch Touchscreen Tablet [Android 1.6, 2GB Storage, 256MB RAM, ARM 299MHz CPU]

The PanImage 7-inch touchscreen tablet is another low-end device to originate in China. It is priced at $154 at QVC, which is simply not worth it given the device specs that are a couple of generations behind what consumers have already gotten used to.

Can the Android 1.6 operating system be upgraded to the 2.xx version?

Ummm I qot it(PanImage Tablet) for x-mas and for the most part… it sucksxx.. !! Umm thhe day after I got it., it froze on the opening screen. All SD Cards dont work in there which is almost unheard of now-a-days. You mean to tell me i cant download music to my card and listen to it on this piece of crap.! And why the hell would I want a tablet or any electronic for that matter operating on an old system. When the G1 came out., 1.6 was its operatinq system. They have since came out with 1.7 – 2.3 OS and its only qetting better…Return it !! Its not worth the trouble or the money. You can obviously tell it was mass produced., Theres no attention to detail. Its just a simple piece of crap

oooh and the wi-fi sucksxx to., It cant pick up networks in the vicintiy whether it be secured or not.!

I just got one yesterday – I agree it’s not all that it’s cracked up to be – will give it one more chance later today – if it’s a no go I’m sending it back to QVC where I bought it. Screen locks, when I try to get to menu to unlock it won’t let me do that, won’t connect with my router. Will stick with my desktop and laptop – maybe I’ll get ereader with WiFi.

  7. Really? says:

Lol all. It’s 1/6 the price of an IPad with the same memory. Really? You need to use a MICRO sd card ( up to 32GB ). Now try swapping memory cards with your Ipad. Fill those cards with MP3 tunes, MPEG4 movies, and then find ‘apk’ files to edit Word files, or games (many free too).
You do need Wi Fi (or you could hassle with network cables..but in 2010 Really?) which, if you enter info properly, allows you to have several signals to choose from if you have them available. Get a Gmail account and use the web browser for email. Don’t bother fussing with POP account setups if that stuff is too technical. You get 4 to 6 hours from a charge (1-2 for my Ipod Touch), and it’s a book reader too.

I got this piece of junk for Christmas. I am sending it back tomorrow. Right off the bat it displayed an error message that said “demo version has expired.” I fixed that problem, but the stupid tablet won’t connect to my wifi. It won’t even detect my wifi while holding it next to the router. I went through all the settings on the tablet and even input the MAC into my router and it will not detect it. This is a piece of junk! I was not expecting much because of the price but I was expecting it to work. Worse, this was the only present I got for Christmas and it will not work. I won’t be getting another one. I am going to spend the extra money and get an Ipad. You truly do get what you pay for.

Guys DO NOT BUY THIS! SAVE YOUR MONEY! This tablet has had so many problems with it. i got one for christmas and we are returning it already we can’t connect to wifi, there are pretty much NO APPS, It runs everything super slow, it has the weirdest way of putting music on it and the touch screen lags as if you were clicking like everything

  10. [...] 8292 is another cheap / inexpensive Android tablet, in fact it is cheaper than the now much-hated PanImage; so what do you expect you’ll get for your money? Pretty much the same as what you got for [...]

I don’t remember my wireless password so I can’t connect to my new Droid.. I am screwed right? Anything I can do without buying a new router?

    • Jim says:

Look your router up online, there is a manual reset button, press it and you’ll have to set the network up again, but at least this time you’ll know your password and be able to connect new items to it.

  12. Dave says:

We bought two for our daughters for Christmas. Tears of joy quickly changed to tears of sadness when the tablets wouldn’t work properly. Either one WILL NOT connect to Wifi at all where all the other Wifi devices in the house (8) connect perfectly. The user’s guide is for the most part unusable. OVC was no help in the technical aspects of this thing. In fact they didn’t even know there was a problem with them (dispite the massive amounts of negative reviews on their own website. We’ll try to call Pandigital’s tech line but problably won’t be able to understand the person (you know what I mean). If that doesn’t work, they’ll be going back to QVC promptly. Very disappointed with both the product and the fact that QVC didn’t fully check out the product prior to selling it.

  13. MBB says:

As bought new it is awful.

After installing modded ROM with Google Experience and Android Market it is acceptable, but a bit slow. For the price its a good deal, but ONLY if you install new modded ROM. Search for panimage ROM by Tipstir and you will find loads of info. Once it gets rooted and overclocked it promises to be decent.

  14. Bianca says:

    huh,
I got one of the later shipments for my 13 yo daughter, and we haven’t had any problems yet. Wifi works fine, she downloaded Kindle Books, and watches Anime movies via wi-fi with no problems? Weird.

  15. sam says:

mine is a piece of crap! mine froze on the screen and it wont come undone! everything else was fine, but now it doesn’t work :’(

    • Nancee says:

Mine just froze, after working pretty well (I could access limited email, internet, and kindle books but really nothing else). But now the frozen starting screen is all I’m getting and I’m at a total loss how to reset. It doesn’t even seem to turn off completely now, just a hibernate thing. Help! (And if it ever works again, I’d love to know how to actually download apps as it won’t recognize them or says, internet connection not available when it is clearly on).

    • deb mccord says:

      • Jeff E. says:

Try connecting it to the ac adapter and press and hold the power button till you feel a vibration and then release it and it should come on. Then leave it on and connected and see if your batt is still holding charge.

    • otto says:

Still not working? I have the same problem. Did you contact already ASUS? I would appreciate any help.

  16. Evelyn says:

Me, like a majority of the others, have had not problems connecting to wifi. True is a little behind the more up to date tablets. I mainly use mine for Kindle books and facebook. We must remember it is NOT a computer. I love mine and now looking for a car charger. Any one know what or where I may be able to find one? Thanks!

  17. Kim T. says:

I was talking about the 13 year old girl who had no problems with the device and watching anime (without problems)! Sorry these devices needs to be more adult friendly. Quote unquote turn on and go. Forget installation, reading manuals, asking for support. Only sedentary adults or computer geniuses can handle all that.

  18. Jeff E. says:

    First I must say ..
1 You do get what you pay for.
2 I have tweeked mine out a bit what I did was I went to like kickasstorrents.com and searched Android software and found pack after pack of 3800 or so apps in one file. I took my 8gb micro sd card put it in its adapter and install them from there. To those with battery issues try turning off your wifi off when you are not on it. I have had no problems with mine.
ALSO you can also remove the android system and install Windows XP
I also want to say to those out there who are having so many problems IF YOU JUST WANT TO GET RID OF THEM I WILL TAKE THEM AND REFIT THEM AND DONATE THEM.

  19. Jammy J says:

I purchased the Tablet PC and like 80% of people it is impossible to connect to WIFI through Broadband,( i use Sky) i have conected my Laptop perfectly with the Network Key as the password but it just wont allow the connection it as states connection is not avaliable OR disconnected i must have tried putting in the network key about 30 times and always comes up with the same error message i purchased mine off ebay and am for the most part really dissapointed as the manual doesnt explane anything better im really stuck on this.
I would kindly ask anyone on here that has connected to WIFI how did you do it as it seems impossible i think i will send back not impressed )-’
