RIM Introduces BBX Platform for Tablets and Smartphones
RIM has announced the BBX platform for its tablets and smartphones. Going forward the Blackberry OS will be based on BBX with support for apps that were developed for OS 6 and OS 7 running on QNX.
The POSIX-certified platform will also allow you to develop your own apps with its powerful native SDK. The BBX platform also carries EAL4+ and SIL3 certifications, so you can rest easy about any security concerns about this platform. Remember, the government uses the Blackberry Playbook.
As you may already know, the Blackberry Runtime for Android lets you download Android apps on your Blackberry devices; of course with certain limitations. The new OS will support Adobe Air, Flash apps, and HTML 5. Later today, tools for the PlayBook OS 2.0 Developer Beta will be made available. RIM is also getting ready a cross-platform SDK named Marmalade for porting code from all over on to your Blackberry devices.
